Saint Tiruvalluvar was a Jain

By Dharmanathan Varthamanan
I want to give the following supporting documents to prove as Jain saint:1. It is believed by Jains that "Acharya Kundakunda" has written Thirukkural. There is a Temple in a village called Ponnur (Ponnur malai) near Vandavasi town (Thiruvannamalai district), Tamil nadu.there is a ashram now also. Which is supported financially by "Times of India" group.

2. Eventhough other Tamil genius not agreed that it is not written by Kundkunda, They agreed that Thirukkural written by a Jain saint. (the famous present Tamil writer "Sujatha", The Tamil daily "Dinamani's" former editor Iravadham Mahadevan. are some of the examples who agree Tiruvalluvar as a Jain saint)

3. Shri vaiyapuri pillai, Thiru.Vi.Kalyanasundaram are also agreed that Thiruakurral was written by a Jain saint "Thiruvalluvar". Famous Tamil scholar and Jain activist Later shri Jeevabandhu S.Sripal has released one book with complete evindence. The name of the book is "Indhavithaan Yaar?(Who is controlling five senses)"

4. Recently (year 2000) International Tamil Language foundation ,8417,Autumn drive, Woodridge, Illinois 60517 -USA released a very nice book "Thirukkural-The Holy scripture" at the cost of US$ 19.95. In that book lot of articles regarding "Thirukkural and Tiruvalluvar". In that Sripal's articles also published both Tamil and English. There is a article "Tamilscontribution to world religions-Tamils preeminent place". In that articles we come to know that Thirukurral is written by a Jain saint.

Actually Lot of Tamil epics (Thirukkural, Naladiar,Silappadikaram, Jeevaga sinthamani, Udhyanakumara kaviam, Eladhi) and Grammar (Nannul,Yapparungala karigai) and Dictionaries contributed only by Jains. But it is not much spoken by people because of religious envy. But when they talk about "Strength' they use this and forget.
