May 27,
2013, Claremont, California. Claremont Lincoln University ( CLU)
announced the appointment of Dr. Brianne Donaldson as the first
Professor and Director of the Center for Jain Studies at CLU. This is a
very exciting news.
Dr. Donaldson, scholar of the spiritual traditions of India, process
philosopher, and activist, is joining the faculty at CLU. She is an
alumnus of International School for Jain Studies (ISJS) and during the
last 2 years she has been the prime mover in establishing programs in
Jain Studies at CLU. While applying for admission to ISSJS program in 2010, Brianne , wrote in her application:
“I want
to hear everyone talking about Jainism. I want religion and philosophy
departments teaching it. I want ecologists and agricultural technicians
exploring its sustainability models. I want animal ethicists
investigating it. I want metaphysicians engaging its textual and
cosmological claims. I want economics departments examining its
charitable giving and solvency. I want diplomats, nonviolent
practitioners and just war theorists scrutinizing it as a viable
political way of life. In short, I want it on the lips of every
discipline, colliding with existing wisdom, challenging epistemological
strongholds, and generally throwing a wrench into any sentiment that
would dismiss as impractical the possibilities of humans living in a
fundamentally different manner in our current and future worlds”
In
the appointment of Dr. Donaldson, we see progress in the fulfillment
of her vision and dreams. The Jain community is very excited and
conveys its heartiest congratulation and wishes her all the successes.
