By Dharmanathan Varthamanan
I want to give the following supporting documents to prove as Jain saint:1. It is believed by Jains that "Acharya Kundakunda" has written Thirukkural. There is a Temple in a village called Ponnur (Ponnur malai) near Vandavasi town (Thiruvannamalai district), Tamil nadu.there is a ashram now also. Which is supported financially by "Times of India" group.
2. Eventhough other Tamil genius not agreed that it is not written by Kundkunda, They agreed that Thirukkural written by a Jain saint. (the famous present Tamil writer "Sujatha", The Tamil daily "Dinamani's" former editor Iravadham Mahadevan. are some of the examples who agree Tiruvalluvar as a Jain saint)
3. Shri vaiyapuri pillai, Thiru.Vi.Kalyanasundaram are also agreed that Thiruakurral was written by a Jain saint "Thiruvalluvar". Famous Tamil scholar and Jain activist Later shri Jeevabandhu S.Sripal has released one book with complete evindence. The name of the book is "Indhavithaan Yaar?(Who is controlling five senses)"
4. Recently (year 2000) International Tamil Language foundation ,8417,Autumn drive, Woodridge, Illinois 60517 -USA released a very nice book "Thirukkural-The Holy scripture" at the cost of US$ 19.95. In that book lot of articles regarding "Thirukkural and Tiruvalluvar". In that Sripal's articles also published both Tamil and English. There is a article "Tamilscontribution to world religions-Tamils preeminent place". In that articles we come to know that Thirukurral is written by a Jain saint.
Actually Lot of Tamil epics (Thirukkural, Naladiar,Silappadikaram, Jeevaga sinthamani, Udhyanakumara kaviam, Eladhi) and Grammar (Nannul,Yapparungala karigai) and Dictionaries contributed only by Jains. But it is not much spoken by people because of religious envy. But when they talk about "Strength' they use this and forget.

i agree that thiruvaluvar is a jain -- that does not mean who was not tamil....
dont mix religion and language...
Also, there is no religious envy...nobody is saying thiruvalluvar was hindu.... he was tamil jain.....
Race, Language, religion are variables--- it changes constantly history....
The author of this blog might have his ancestors as brahmins 2000 years back speaking pali language.... 1500 years back the same family might have spoken tamil and might have followed jainisim and 1000 years back might have spoken telugu and practiced hinduism ....nobody knows.....
Thiruvalluvar was a great poet...
Jainsim is a great religion like other religions
There is envy anywhere-- might be there is ignorance
Nobody knows the real name of the author of Kural. Valluvar is only an honoric name.
The early founders of Tamil literature are jains and Buddhists with roots in the Pali
language.Let's be decent enough to give them the credit for civilizing the Tamil language when it was nascent.
Sridharan
since lod age jains lived in tamilnadu referred as samanas
supporting evidences lie in Tirukural itself. Very first Kural says AdiBagawan muthatre Ulagu.
AdiBagwan is very first Jain Thirthankar.
Another one "Malarmisai Eaginaan"= Maan adi sernthar. Maan is Vardamaan Mahaveer. Malarmisai Eaginaan Maanadi sernthar meaning must be those who choose PariNirnana(Moksha?) VardaMaan's path their names will live for ever in this world. Ordinary Tamil teacher or even experts won't see this twist. Don't blame them. They have no idea or they are not interested in knowing things. There are so many words that proves Tirukural is a Jain work.
The word "Aram" in Tamil is nothing but equivalent of "Arihan(t)". Tirukural's major heading is "Arathu paal". What proof some one need more than this. Aruhan, AruhaDevan refers to Mahaveer and some other Thirthankars. Thiruvalluvar's real name or his other names are not known. Valluvar is a caste name in TN and Kerala. In Kerala, a regions comprises of few districts are called Valluva Nadu. (e.g. Pandiya nadu represents southern districts of Tamilnadu)

Dear Aishwarya
Jainism was so wide-spread not only in the south, but all of ancient India. Ruins & Excavations of Jain idols from diff places are living proof. If you google, you will know how Jains were speared live & killed due to conspiracies of the shaivaites & Vaishnavites (thr was nothing called Hinduism that time). Coz they feared that their religion was become extinct as many people started following this simple religion & it's non-violent ways. Thr r even paintings in the Meenakshi temple of Jains speared live. Sadly they are being misguided to people that they were demons, a complete hoax. Even today you have 1000s of Tamil speaking Jains near Kancheepuram etc. So many Jain statues are converted into Hindu gods & temples, few of which the gender is changed too. If u remember your history lessons well, it is mentioned that most Tamil literary works were by Jain saints like Thiruvalluvar, Manickavasagar etc. Those who followed Jainism (Shraman dharms were called Shramans in those days,ie, Samanars. Even today they are recognised as samanars. Pls Google for Jain cave temples in Tamil Nadu, u will be amazed!
Hope this info helps. Thx.
The fact is - there should be no envy. But the truth is there was envy & still prevails. Read how the Shaivites & Vaishnavites planned cunning strategies against the flourishing religion of Jainism (Shraman culture) where Jain saints & followers were butchered live. Do Google. Thx.
Frim what I read recently, the real name of Thiruvalluvar is Kund Kund Acharya. Jain records has references of this. Thanks.
Yes, true.
'Samanars'
Thank you Mr.Sundar, you are right. I just read that Kund Kund (Acharya) is actually Thiruvalluvar. He is the first saint of Digambar Jains. There are references of him.
Dear selvaraj, please send the articles to my mail. Jbmoise@gmail.com.
I am not able to contact you through your redif mail id. Email got returned to me.
Jain is a never ending religion, first know about something before you write
I'm 41 & live in Madurai,in school we have learnt in history that all classic Tamil literature was written by Jain saints. There is no doubt about it as Jainism was spread all over India from the times of Chandragupta Maurya in 4th century BC and flourished to 7th century AD. He along with Jain muni Bhadrabahu traveled south to Shravanbelgola, that time Jainism spread wider to Kerala & Tamil Nadu. All these Tamil literary works are by Jain saints who were Tamil speaking. Before Jainism, there existed sanatan & Shraman (Samana) dharm. Jains in TN were addressed as Samanars. There are many Jain hills existing today around Madurai and all over TN. Infact even Karnataka, AP, Delhi, everywhere. Many are demolished by the Mughals and many were converted by the Shaivites due to religious rivalry and politics, due to which Jain saints & followers were killed alive and slowly Jainism declined.
To your surprise, even the Tirupati Balaji temple is actually a Jain temple. There was a treaty signed by Jains & king Bukka Raya in which to save their lives & monuments, they had to trade a few Jain temples to him which he converted to Hindu. Pls google if you find it hard to believe. History we are taught is so manipulated, we just don't know enough about our own roots.
As such i strongly believed that Tiruvalluvar port is belongs to Jainism.
Jains were ruler in tamilnadu .There's not even one tahsil i Tamilnadu where Jains temple do not exist However may be in worst conditions Indian history is written with full deception
Yes.i know so many time vist ponnour mallai.kunkuda acriya wrote. Kural.jains.dont want arguments. That is main law.
